God's Surprising Wisdom and Strength
THEME : For what seems to be God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and what seems to be God's weakness is stronger than human strength. 1Corinthians 1:25
EXAMPLE OF GOD’S WISDOM & STRENGTH
- Examples highlighting how God's wisdom often operates in ways contrary to worldly wisdom, turning what seems foolish into avenues for divine purpose and understanding.
(i)Turning the Other Cheek (Matthew 5:39); Instead of seeking revenge, embrace a counterintuitive approach by responding to aggression with nonviolence and patience.
(ii)The Woman Caught in Adultery (John 8:1-11); A woman caught in the act of adultery is brought to Jesus, and the crowd demands judgment. Jesus responds, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." The crowd disperses, and Jesus, the only one without sin, does not condemn her but tells her to go and sin no more.
(iii)The Pharisee and the Tax Collector (Luke 18:9-14); Jesus tells a parable about a Pharisee and a tax collector praying in the temple. The Pharisee boasts of his righteousness, while the tax collector humbly asks for mercy. Jesus concludes that the tax collector, acknowledging his need for mercy, went home justified rather than the Pharisee.
(iv)Solomon's Wise Judgment (1 Kings 3:16-28); Two women come to King Solomon, each claiming to be the mother of the same baby. Solomon proposes to divide the baby in two, giving each woman half. The real mother immediately offers to give up her claim to save the child's life. Solomon, recognizing her maternal love, declares her the true mother and awards her custody. This decision demonstrates Solomon's wisdom inspired by God.
(v)Noah's Ark (Genesis 6-9); God instructs Noah to build an ark to save humanity and animals from a flood. The world might have seen it as foolish, but Noah's obedience to God's seemingly unconventional plan led to the preservation of life.
(vi)The Cross & Resurrection (1Corinthians 1:18-31); The crucifixion of Jesus on the cross is viewed by many as foolishness, but through it, God's plan for salvation unfolds. The resurrection of Jesus displays God's wisdom surpassing worldly understanding.
(vii)The Miraculous Catch of Fish (Luke 5:1-11); Jesus instructs Simon Peter to put out into deep water and let down the nets for a catch, even though they had caught nothing the whole night. Despite Peter's initial doubt, he obeys, and the result is a miraculous catch of so many fish that their nets begin to break. This event highlights the power of Jesus' guidance and the abundance that comes from trusting in His words.
- Notable examples illustrating God's strength through what the world considers weak is the story of the following:-
- David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17; David, a young shepherd, defeats the giant Goliath with a simple sling and a stone. Despite being perceived as an underdog, David's trust in God showcases divine strength overcoming worldly expectations.
- Joshua & the Walls of Jericho (Joshua 6); God instructed Joshua to march around the city of Jericho for seven days, and on the seventh day, the walls miraculously collapsed when the Israelites shouted. This event demonstrates God's power in unconventional strategies.
- Daniel in the Lion's Den (Daniel 6); Daniel's faithfulness to God led to him being thrown into a den of lions. God shut the lions' mouths, sparing Daniel's life and showcasing divine protection.
- Elijah & the Prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18); Elijah, on Mount Carmel, challenged the prophets of Baal to a contest. God consumed Elijah's water-drenched sacrifice with fire, proving His supremacy over false gods.
- The Three Hebrews in the Fiery Furnace (Daniel 3); Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow down to the golden image, facing punishment in a fiery furnace. However, God protected them from harm, demonstrating His power over even the most perilous situations.
Furthermore; God purposely chose what the world considers nonsense in order to shame the wise, and he chose what the world considers weak in order to shame the powerful. Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
In Conclusion:-
- Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!
- Happy are those who mourn; God will comfort them!
- Happy are those who are humble; they will receive what God has promised! Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires; God will satisfy them fully!
- Happy are those who are merciful to others; God will be merciful to them!
- Happy are the pure in heart; they will see God!
- Happy are those who work for peace; God will call them his children!
- Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!
- Happy are you when people insult you and persecute you and tell all kinds of evil lies against you because you are my followers.
